Measures to be taken by housing societies to combat spread of COVID-19

Practicing social distancing, maintaining a high standard of personal hygiene, boosting the immune system will help a lot to prevent the spread of coronavirus

As of now, the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has started taking over the whole country. And amidst this dire pandemic, the Indian government rightfully advised its citizen, to not come out of their homes for 21 days. A complete lockdown with only essential services are available, Hon. PM has appealed everyone to stay home and be safe.

It means that we must quarantine ourselves spending a whole time at home in our housing society and practice social distancing. However, it is very difficult to socially distance ourselves in our housing society, where we are surrounded by hundreds or even thousands of other families who are our fellow neighbors.

As we all know that housing societies are a very densely populated area where it is too hard to keep social distancing. The reason is that we are heavily dependent on one another to do our duties for the proper functioning of our society.

So how do we undertake the best possible precautions to keep us and our loved ones safe? Below are a few guidelines that can help you manage your society and residents:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly and regularly with hand wash or soap. Carry and utilize sanitizers when you are outdoors.
  • First of all, avoid all kinds of public gatherings within the society premises. If you are planning to organic any kind of event then please cancel it immediately.
  • Ensure that your society staff and security guards are wearing masks, washing hands and applying hand sanitizers frequently.
  • Kindly avoid the usage of any kind of society amenities like the swimming pool, gym, garden, and clubhouse for a while.
  • Request your society staff to do their assigned work (with a strict emphasis on sanitation) and go home as quickly as possible, without loitering around the society.
  • If you or anybody in your society has arrived home recently from traveling, advise them to stay at home in a self-isolation situation for at least 2 weeks. Help them by providing essential supplies.
  • Avoid using the elevators/lifts and disinfect frequently used areas like doorbells and door handles, lift buttons, gates, etc. If possible, try using the stairs without touching the railings.
  • Eat healthy, get proper sleep, and exercise regularly. Do not stress yourself or panic and focus on things that are in your control that can boost the immune system.
  • Inform your guard to keep a safe distance of at least 1 meter from the people outside the premises. If possible, tell them to restrict the entry of the delivery man, maids, visitors, hawkers, etc.
  • Do not spread and believe in myths, misinformation, and hoaxes that are being circulated on the internet and Whatsapp like wildfire.

WHO has declared Novel Coronavirus a global pandemic, and right now we must take necessary preventive measures to keep us and our loved ones safe. The only way that we can curb it is by maintaining proper personal hygiene and implements local safety measures in and around our homes. Stay home! Stay Safe!
